“Terrifying and Exciting”

Full Coverage: Colonists reap rewards from wreckage and turn Earth’s loss into their gain.

To citizens of Earth, the multi-kilometre expanse that defines Ereshkigal’s crash site still evokes a sombre silence. To most, the stills and footage of the crash hold to the truism that the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.

To some, the images evoke anger and hurt, the desire to hold someone or something accountable.

To the citizens of Mars, there is a different outlook. Today, I interviewed a colonist who went by the name of ‘Biogan.’ Mr. Biogan, who owns a plot of land near the crash, had this to say:

“It was unbelievable. It was as if the sky was falling and to have the crash so close to my lands was terrifying. And yet, it was exciting too. After the dust settled, I explored my lands and recovered a significant haul of resources: sulphur, silicon, iron. I even obtained a Shrike V7 and a rare Nancy.

Earth might have abandoned the wreck, but we won’t let it go to waste.

We’re going to make the best of it, we’re going to stay informed.

I think this is the difference between Earth and Mars.

We’re still looking ahead to the future.”

Mr. Biogan is not alone in his beliefs. Lands with wreckage continue to be sought after among colonists and it is not uncommon to see people exploring and claiming their finds, day and night.
